Haydn talks Prescent Summer Day

Their ethos is ‘slow perfume’ and their debut collection of Summer Day and Summer Night (sold as a set of 2 x 15ml) is from perfumer Jean-Charles Mignon. He has used exceptional ingredients, ethically sourced and eco-friendly. The idea is a seasonal scent collection with a hero ingredient - and for both Summer Day and Summer Night that hero is Vanilla.

Summer Day S. 20 is a fusion of ginger with Madagascan vanilla absolute. The ginger is very noticeable in the opening spritz and it’s a nice surprise - in addition to citrus notes of bergamot and lemon. There’s pepper in there too which works really well with the ginger. The heart of the fragrance gets spicier with nutmeg and more floral with Turkish rose. The vanilla then comes into play rounding off and adding sweetness to the scent. The dry down reveals patchouli, sandal & cedar woods and tonka - and the quality of the elements means it has real staying power.

I’m always interested in the packaging and brand copy. Prescent’s presentation (prescentation?!) is superlative. There are a series of illustrated postcards describing the perfumer, the story, the ingredients etc -and there’s a real eye for design at work here. Beautiful, bold and colourful - and a pleasure to pore over as I tried the fragrances.
